Multiple thoughts from lots of previous ideas combined:
Actually successfully stopping the ASI race via assassinations requires atleast a hundred simultaneous assassinations. Too hard compared to other plans. Maintaining trust, chain of command, etc is hard for private militias.
I think the vibes are too non-violent on all sides. Dario Amodei speeches too peaceful, while he talks of 10-25% probability of civilisational catastrophe, or chernobyl-scale disasters to wake up the public, or country of geniuses in a datacentre in 4 years. Pause AI deepmind protest slogans were so lame. AI employees are so casual about their work, atleast some of them.
Gwern agrees the point of assassinations is often propaganda not actually being effective at maximising kills.
Since I am not an exceptionally good liar, I must become propaganda not create propaganda. I can convincingly persuade others of things only if I am convinced myself. I can spread violent vibes to others, only if I have violent vibes.
The best way to spread violent vibes is not to talk about spreading violent vibes, it is to actually be violent.
Conclusion - I should deliberately make a failed assassination attempt at one of the AI CEOs. Like, take a gun and fire at them in a way that ensures they don't actually get shot.
Atleast the temperature will raise on both sides of the conflict, if I do this.
I'll go to prison for a few years at minimum, that's not actually the main issue with this. I might be ok going to prison if I was convinced this is the most effective thing to do.
Obviously me publicly talking of crimes like this, online, makes it harder for me to succeed without getting caught.
I still am hoping to find some more effective option, but honestly, the logic checks out to me so far.
Honestly I think the cyberattack plan is lowkey similar. It is actually perceived by the public as somewhat violent (even though I don't think it is that violent). The very fact I am attempting this has propaganda value, independent of whether I succeed or not.
