List of tech billionaires who later funded anti-tech projects
Disclaimer
List is probably incomplete
Quick Note
This is a list I often seem to want to keep track of, but later lose track of. Hence here it is.
List of tech billionaires who later funded anti-tech projects
Pierre Omidyar
Justin Rosenstein
Van dee Hock
P.S. I am being kinda vague about the definition of "anti-tech".
I think the actual thing I want to track here is something closer to 'willingness to fund something sufficiently anti-tech that many other tech billionaires have probably cut off their networks with them in response'.
Tracking this metric explicitly is hard, because many billionaires are silent about their opinions of other billionaires.
I do think billionaires and politicians live in a small world, and this changes the incentives a lot. Imagine being either born or introduced into a family of a few hundred people you will have to deal with for the rest of your life.
You can actually get quite far in life if you just ignore everyone else and do your own thing. But also, there may always be that one favour you end up needing, from the other people in the family, such that it is now a bolder move to explicitly cut people off.
You can obviously get a lot further if you don't merely tolerate these people, but form actual alliances with shared goals.
Example: Gates and Buffett. Moskowitz and Tallinn.
If you have actual first-hand data on all this, please let me know. It would be bad if I speculated a bunch of stuff around how billionaires and politicians social circles worked, and this later turned out completely unrelated to reality.
